How DataNovata Works

Step 1
Select Your Database

Configure DataNovata with your database location. Or, for data in a non-relational format, let NSC migrate it to a relational database and use DataNovata's powerful Data Structuring Tool to establish the structure.

After installing DataNovata on the development server along with a suitable J2EE web-server (e.g. Tomcat), run the DataNovata Configuration Manager. Enter the details of your database into the Manager and set any further options as required.

Many popular database formats are supported, e.g. Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL etc. NSC will happily supply a compatible version for other databases.

Step 2
Generate Your Application

Use DataNovata to generate a new application. Within minutes the database structure has been examined and your new application has been created, deployed and is ready to use.

Once the configuration is complete the DataNovata generate process can be run. This extracts all necessary data definitions and relationships from the database and creates a web-enabled application.

Within minutes a complete application has been generated, compiled, deployed within the web server and is ready to use!

Step 3
Access Your Data

End-users can now be given access to your data from anywhere on your intranet (or even the world!) via a standard web browser or Java Web Start. Administrators can manage users and security.

Using a standard web browser or Java Web Start the application can be accessed on your intranet or potentially from anywhere in the world via the internet. No installation is required - your users simply enter the URL and the client tier of the application is automatically installed and run.

The Administrator is able to manage other users and configure application and data security.

Step 4
Customise Your Application

An array of customisation options can now provide the ideal user interface through the use of on-line design facilities, configuration parameters and simple DataNovata Scripts. In addition, because a DataNovata application is pure Java, you always have the option of extending the generated Java classes.

A DataNovata application can be regenerated at any time to apply DataNovata Scripts, extended Java classes or to reflect a change to the database structure (e.g. a new table).

Of course, regenerating preserves all the modifications made and if you are automatically deploying to the web server, users will automatically get the new version too.
